Dyslexia
The Virginia General Assembly in 2016 mandated that all educators seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license complete awareness training, provided by the Virginia Department of Education, on the indicators of dyslexia, evidence based intervention, and accommodations for dyslexia. The 2017 Virginia General Assembly required that each local school board employing a reading specialist shall have training in identification of and the appropriate interventions, accommodations and teaching techniques for students with dyslexia or a related disorder and shall serve as an advisor. This brochure provides a synopsis of dyslexia, evidence-based intervention, and accommodations for individuals with dyslexia, and organizations dedicated to supporting parents, educators, and learners dealing with dyslexia.
